Browser Wars – CSS3 and HTML5

Web Design No Comments

The problem with CS3 and HTML5 is that over 36% of people still use IE. This along with the fact that IE8 has no support for these, this puts this line of coding back by at least 2 years.

Browser trend for Dec 09

IE8 – 13.5%
IE7 – 12.8%
IE6 – 10.9%
Firefox – 46.4%
Chrome – 9.8%
Safari - 3.6%
Opera - 2.3%

I find that w3schools.com statistics are very close to the statistics I get back from Google Analytics. Interesting how many people are turning away from IE.

All this is a real shame there are some very exciting things coming down the line. Already people have been experimenting with new techniques. This is an example of the Star Wars intro all produced using CSS3.

The problem is the speed of adoption. As you can see people are still using IE6, who knows when the numbers will be enough to support IE9. Shame.
